Project “Epic Reads”: Uglies
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be perfect for just one day? I sometimes want so badly to live in a place like New Pretty Town because let’s face it: looks matter.
It’s nice to hear “hey, what’s inside you it’s better” or “looks fade”, but take a close look around: everyone seeks for perfection. When you meet someone for the first time it’s impossible to know if they are a good person or not… Their looks is all you have as a guide. I know you can be surprised and all that, but when someone looks pretty or handsome, it’s easy for them to make an impression.
I’m not afraid to admit that most of the time it would be nice to look at the mirror and like what I see.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a guy or a girl, everyone wants to be accepted, to be wanted. And pretty people are easily accepted by the rest of us.
Project “Epic Reads”: I Am Number Four
What I like about this saga is the friendship that forms between the most unthinkable people (or aliens). Four, Six, Sam, Bernie Kosar… they must work together to survive on Earth.
Isn’t that what friends are for? To help us survive our own personal wars, battles and demons?
(Or if you’re an alien, to defeat the mogadorians?)
Project “Epic Reads”: Divergent
Tris for me is such a strong character. She transforms herself through the trilogy, and what I like about that process is that she is not afraid of it. She starts looking for her place in society and fights for it until eventually she becomes the person she always wanted to be.
Fight for what you want and not give up, for me, is the definition of strength.
Trapped for years in this huge city. All I ever wanted to do is to fly away.
To find a place I can call my own.
Where people and places don’t look like strangers anymore.
Where darkness no longer rules over time.
I want to find home.
I wish people could look at other people beyond their looks.
Blue eyes, skinny, blonde… these are just labels. People is more than looks and words.
We are beautiful because we are human.
She buried her heart along with all the memories of him. It felt like dying, only worse. She still had to wake up every morning to face the sad truth: she was lonely.
But nothing stays dead for too long. Her heart started to beat again, slowly at first, afraid of the movement. And when she rose from the graveyard the world still felt empty, but she was a little bit stronger.
Lesson from Nature #4
Drowning in life is easy.
The trick is to keep swimming. You’ll get better at it.
Lesson from Nature #3
Even though humans like to describe everything as black or white, nature tells us to look further:
Do you see all the colors?
Lesson from Nature #2
Thick skin is always useful to prevent damage. But in the end, it doesn’t matter: extinction is always around the corner.
Lesson from Nature #1
They wanted to reach the sky, but none of the animals on Earth are meant to aim that high…
…at least not while they are alive.
